AMG Mercedes-Benz Enthusiasts | Greg

We've come a long way from the paper maps purchased at gas stations. The Mercedes-Benz navigation system is truly feature rich and full of driving benefits. Thanks for the info. I'll make a note of your post on my blog:

On the Benz navigation is there a button for a shortcut to a destination instead of taking the local route.

Ivan Johnson

They should still replace their system with Garmin in the US and Tom-Tom in Europe. It's not eactly helpful to go to address 50-75 Smith Lane rather than 53 Smith LAne on the left like GArmin pinpoints.

"you don’t realize how nice it is until you have one."

Hmmm.

Let me suggest that the article should instead say, "unless you have used a Garmin or similar GPS navigator you may not realize how really bad the M-B navigation system is."

Interesting comments, since we are considering buying a new BluTec, and a user-friendly navigation system is important to us, having used the Garmin Street Pilot III for several years...and it ain't easy to use!

Now that the new MB navigation system is hard drive driven (not DVD anylonger) how much will an update cost. Does anyone know if MB came up with an update for the new 2008-2009 C class that allows you to see real time traffic?

For an automobile in the SL550 class the navigation system is just another reason for me to say "the most over rated automobile that I have owned. I guess I am just spoiled having used a Garman nav.

I have a E350 and it looks like the GPS screen has some type of burn in...Is there a way to replace or repair the screen?

we dont have subscription for navigation and we would like to update our 2007 navi , is there an option to do it outside mercedes benz dealer ... thanks

As an owner of a 2008 ML550, I find that the navigation system was a horrible surprise. Haven't actually turned it on in a year, actually taped my Garmin over the display for a while. The interface is difficult, to the point where getting my Garmin out of the briefcase is faster than trying to use it... Unless they have changed the 'points of interest' it was an unpleasant surprise to find that their idea of POI is about 1/10th of the number of POI's in my Garmin. for the price of the MB update you can buy a brand new Garmin every year, or just buy a good Garmin and get the 'forever map update' option, still less than a SINGLE map update from MB. Very disappointing in a vehicle that is supposed to be the class of the industry. This is 'the Mercedes Benz' of navigation systems? Makes me wonder what else they mislead me about.

I have a 2007, E350. My NAV was very weak, but I knew the area and adjusted.
I just moved and had to buy a Magellan because my installed NAV is useless!

Are there updates available? Besides MB's solution of $250.00 for part # Q-646-0257

Very Black Eye for MB!

I have a 2008, E350. As a realtor, I insisted on the nav system hoping it would help with getting through neighborhoods when showing homes. So far...Huge dissapointment and a big waste of money. Most roads and some highways that have been around for years don't appear on the map. Shows me as "offroading" most of the time. I have gone back to printing "google maps" prior to showing homes:( Have been trying to get an update CD but not having any luck. Any ideas...the Merecedes dealership wants close to $300!

I love this. I love my DVD players, but the screens are always too small or just not clear enough for my taste. This looks about right. This will keep the kids busy while we are on our long roadtrips!

Sometimes, you're better off withOUT the E350 Nav...Once it took me straight into the hood and couldn't get me back out. Maybe I didn't read the instruction book thoroughly enough, but this is the WORST nav system I've ever used. One cannot enter a street number (what's up with that?) and the POI's are worthless (Steak & Shake is categorized as a Steak restaurant!!) Furthermore, I'm usually "off road." It also identifies the longest routes. This is enough to make me walk away from MB's forever.

I have a CLS 500 and i have to say the Nav is the worst in the industry. This is my first MB and a big disapointment with the NAv. The car itself has been great so far. MB need to get with the program. My wife Lexus has a better nav than my MB.

Surprisingly poor nav system for a 2010 E350. I use a Garmin for my extensive work related travel, it is so good that I don't print maps any more.

The nav system on both of my Mercedes (C300) is something you would expect for less than $100 including hardware.

I would happily pay extra for a quality system.

I have a 2008 navigation system. What-a-peice-of-crap! It will not let me choose a single house number? really? My old $80 rio staples special let me do that... and had 3-d mapping. Are they seriously selling their cars with not only a display 10 years before their time but you cant even put in an address#, it gives you a range of 1-300? I am so pissed with this, im glad i found out though, i was gonna buy my wife a new M-Series truck next year, now i will be finding another mfg. This is so stupid. Some balls selling a 60k car with an excuse, joke nav system stuff in their. What else are they cheaping out on those shrewd, electronic illiterate Germans.

I too am very disappointed with the Navi in my 2008 E300. The POI's are great but if you are looking for a location that is not in the category you are out of luck. No way to override by just spelling the location you want is crazy. Ski locations but no "shopping" except Shopping Malls...

I was going to update my DVD but need to know first if the POI categorys have been expanded to allow simple spelling of the location that you are looking for as is with Garmin, Tom Tom etc...

Any thoughts on this would be apprciated.

I own an pawn shop and the Garmin GPS is far SUPERIOR to the MB navigation DVD that is useless. I cannot believe how horrible their Nav system is. Garmin is a piece of cake and you don't need a book to use it. A 10 year old could get there faster, better, easier and more safely than the MB NAV system.

MIKE TROY

I own a 2008 ML 350 with navigation. I cannot believe there could be a more difficult unit to use. I have never been able to input an address. I live in Salt Lake City where streets are mainly numbers with north, south, east or west so most of the time I don't need help, but when I do I the M-B navigation is useless. Every Garmin or Tom Tom unit I have used is straight forward and easy to input an address. DO NOT B\UY AN M-B NAVIAGTION SYSTEM WITH YOUR VEHICLE IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK.

Robert

My s550 was 98k plus extended warranty you would think mb would update the maps for free. Doesn't matter if you have a 30k dollar used c class or amg the dealers should update nav maps for free. Plus the service manager told me if I purchased a disc from eBay used it could damage my unit. Does this make sense. I will always purchase an MB just hoping the nav units get better. Always have my garmin for back up!

Paul Richard

Iam looking for an update on Navigation for my 2005 E320 any body out there have some good idea's?

Hassan

I have a 2008 E350, and I can tell you the Nav sucks!! May be I'm doing it wrong, but I have to scroll down the city names from a list before I can enter the address... I took me 10 minutes to get to the city I want (letter P), is there a simpler way? What a disappointment, you'd think Mercedes engineers could've thought of something better..

ali shafieyoon
